Sacraments

Baptism
Baptism
Through the waters of Christian Baptism we are born into the life of Christ. This new birth enables us, through grace, to enter and to grow in the life of the Holy Catholic Church. It also frees us from the power of sin over our lives and empowers us to live in ways that praise our God. In preparation for the Baptism of a child, expecting parents are encouraged to contact the Molloy Center: 973-779-6200

Baptism & Beyond

Since parents are the first and best teachers of faith, this pre-baptismal program offers them community support, as well as an opportunity to reassess their faith and be updated on current church issues and reforms. The program consists of one evening session, which must be attended prior to the Baptism of the first child.

Eucharist
Sacraments of First Reconciliation/Eucharist
A sacrament is one of our most personal encounters with Christ, by which He expresses His love for us and through which we respond with our love for Him. To be properly disposed to receive a sacrament, we must have a loving, ongoing relationship with Christ. To receive a sacrament the following must be present:

  • The child's faith must have been nourished and directed through formational instruction (at least two  years prior to the reception of the sacrament).
  • Family participation with the worshipping community on a regular basis at the celebration of Mass.
  • True readiness for the sacrament on the part of the child.
  • Full involvement of the parent/guardian in the preparation process.
  • The desire on the part of the child to receive the sacrament.

    Sacrament of First Eucharist

Ordinarily, children in Grade 2 are prepared for the sacrament of Eucharist. The four-month program consists of two parent meetings, an enrollment ceremony, a seven week instruction program, two paraliturgies, individual interviews and a mini-retreat (Jesus Day). Registration for the sacrament takes place in May/June for the following year.

    RCIA
    R.C.I.A.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process for welcoming new members into the Roman Catholic Church. The R.C.I.A. program begins preparing candidates from September through the Easter Vigil. After a period of listening to Scripture, studying the Church's teachings, praying and participating in liturgical rites, prospective Catholics spend the Lenten period intensely focused on final preparation for receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, which takes place during the Easter Vigil.
