LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR CHILDREN enables the young people of our parish to hear and celebrate the Word of God at weekend liturgy in a setting adapted to their needs and capabilities.
Children have the right to hear what God has to say to them. They have the right because they have been baptized. God wants to speak to children as well as to adults. The problem is that in our liturgy,
the Scriptures are proclaimed in adult language which the children cannot comprehend.
What is the Format?
The children go to Mass with their Family. There, together with the rest of the community, they are greeted by the priest and participate in all of the Introductory Rites, up to and including the Opening Prayer. After the Opening Prayer, the children are invited to leave the assembly with the ministers of the Word and move to a designated area for the Celebration of the Word. Here they will be able to listen and reflect upon the Word of God in a way they can understand. They then rejoin the adult assembly for the Preparation of the Gifts and with the larger community, share in the celebration of the Eucharist.
